Version
2 of this program, recently released, differs from Version
1 in several critical ways. The data-entry
module has been entirely rewritten. Where version 1 required
the user to enter data via a dialog box, version 2 allows
the user to enter data directly into a spreadsheet. This
interface is easier to navigate and also allows the user
to cut-and-paste data from other programs such as Excel ®,
SPSS ®, and STATA ®. Where Version 1 allowed the
user to enter data in one of ten formats, Version 2 allows
the user to enter data in more than 100 formats. Where
Version 1 allowed the user to convert data into one of
five indices
of treatment effect, Version 2 features 20 indices, including
some for one-armed studies and survival studies. Additionally,
Version 2 allows the researcher to combine data from studies
with (a) binary outcomes, (b) continuous outcomes, and
(c) correlations, in the same analysis by converting
effect sizes
and variances when appropriate. It also allows the researcher
to combine data from studies that used independent groups
and studies that used paired groups, taking account of
the standard errors in the different study designs. Finally,
this version adds new computational options such as one-way
analysis of variance using mixed models, a module for publication
bias, cumulative analyses, and numerous other features.
